Pictures comment
Most people are reading a
physical resource, either a book, leaflet or newspaper except for one of the
images, where an old lady is reading on a tablet.
As for the freedom of choice in reading,
we can observe that in most cases the aim of reading is to learn and acquire
some knowledge either for pleasure or as a compulsory task at school.
As far as feelings are concerned,
needles to say that freedom of choice in reading provides you a more rewarding
feeling than compulsory reading. For example, those who are in a library might
be reading for pleasure but also looking for information related to an imposed project.
The girl -sat next to the woman- may be feeling interested in what she is reading
and looking at. Likewise, the other images show the interest of the readers in
the information they are getting from the different resources: tablet, book,
newspaper. Face expression confirms the way they feel when they read.
Reading habits
At present, I don´t attend to
libraries to get information or read in L1. The libraries remind me of my
student years in primary, secondary and university. Likewise, the photo where
the students are reading a red book reminds me of the compulsory readings which
I –as a teacher- work with my students. As for L2 reading, the photo of the man
reading a newspaper fits in with my reading habits though I also use other
reading resources.
I enjoy reading historical and
adventure novels in L1 and I like reading online newspapers, the Classics, 20th
century novels and what teachers call “realia” in L2. However, what determines
my choice is the wide range of reviews and comments books receive.
Overall, I prefer to spend my
time reading on paper rather than an e-reader, though I recognize I also like reading
online. My favourite moments are on holidays and at night.
