Why I chose this video
I´ve chosen this video because next Monday is
Saint Patrick´s day and I consider it a good chance to learn about Irish
symbols, traditions and celebrations.
Learning objectives for the session(s) and sequence of activities:
· To catch students attention as far as Irish traditions and culture are
concerned
· To practice listening skills, focusing on both understanding the small
details (Bottom-up listening) and getting the big picture (Top-down listening).
· To make students think over the relevance of symbols and its meaning as well
as their relation to present day customs.
Sequence of activities
I started with a quick chat about Ireland and what they knew about the
Emerald island. Then, I explained how to access the activity at home so that my
students had no problems and completed it successfully. I flipped my class by
asking them to make the activity at home. This exercise provided speaking
material to be worked in class the next day.
Everything went well and my students really enjoyed the activity. They
liked it so much that I decided to upload another video to be worked in class.
Finally, they watched the video and summarized the main ideas in groups.
